Adobe Tour Posters, Programs, Artists, history
Beginning in 1947, the Monterey History and Art Association orchestrated an annual Adobes Tour. This event began modestly with just a handful of historic adobes, but grew over the years to include annual themes, parades, staged decorative events at the various sites, commemorative ticket books with complementary recipes, numerous ancillary events to attract a wide spectrum of visitors, and grew to include more than forty adobes and other historic structures.
The Monterey History and Art Association has a collection of Adobe Tour posters that were used to advertise the Adobe Tours, and we have photographed these for access by our web site visitors. The collection is incomplete in that several posters are not currently in our collection, but we will continue to search for missing posters. Images of the poster in our collection are available below for download. Also, where we have them, the Adobe Tour booklets are provided for download. These booklets served as admission tickets and souvenirs, and included descriptions and histories of the adobes, maps and schedules for the various activities associated with the annual tour. The last Adobes Tour occurred in 2006.
