Ella Fitch returned to her home state after Roger's death. We have no information about circumstances of her life and death in Connecticut, but thanks to the "Find A Grave" web site and the volunteers who populate this resource with photos of interesting memorial markers, we do know where Ella passed, when she passed, and where she was buried. Nothing on the memorial suggests that the ashes of Colonel Fitch were placed in this grave with Ella, so we assume that the Colonel's remains were not taken to Connecticut when Ella returned. |
The Monterey History and Art Association erected this memorial and dedicated this fountain to the memory of Colonel Fitch. The fountain is located in Friendly Park near Colton Hall and just above the Path of History. Colonel Fitch was instrumental in developing the "Path of History" as a "sidewalk-installed" trail to lead the interested from one historic site to the next throughout the historic district of old Monterey. |
The plaque reads as follows:
