The Mayo Hayes O'Donnell Research Library is located in what was the first protestant church in Monterey, built in the fall of 1876. The building was consecrated in July, 1878, and services were regularly held there for many years. MHAA (Monterey History and Art Association) purchased the building from the Urban Renewal Agency in June 1969 and moved it to its present location in January 1970. The Library was dedicated in August 1970
